The Lord-Lieutenant is required to appoint a number of Deputy Lieutenants to assist in her duties, the maximum number being determined by the population of the county.  The maximum number for Cumbria is 37.  Currently, including the Vice Lord-Lieutenant, Cumbria is at full capacity with 37.

The role of the Deputy Lieutenants is varied and they act as the Lord-Lieutenant's "eyes and ears" within local communities and advise him/her more generally.

Deputy Lieutenants are appointed from across the county and have a wealth of experience in connection with voluntary organisations, the Armed Forces and all other aspects of life in Cumbria.

The Assistant Clerk to the Lieutenancy, to whom all initial enquiries are to be made, is:

Mrs Nicola Harrison
