They will be singing a wide range of music from early sacred plainsong to contemporary soul and pop favourites. Described in The Times as having a 'luminous blend of voices' they never fail to delight audiences young and old and will be accompanied on tour by a King's College Organ Scholar, treating themselves to a few solo performances on St George's famous 1883 Wilkinson organ, made at the Kendal Organ Works on Aynam Road.

  • The Sixteen in Concert
The Sixteen make their eagerly awaited return to Carlisle Cathedral this summer. The choir and period instrument orchestra performs early English polyphony, works of the Renaissance, Baroque and early Classical music, and a mix of 20th-century music. Don't miss your chance to see them on this, their 40th anniversary tour of Cathedrals, bringing music back to the buildings for which it was written. The Sixteen's 2019 Choral Pilgrimage brings together music past and present, highlighting The Sixteen's choral journey over the last 40 years. Their close relationship with Sir James MacMillan continues with a new commission O virgo prudentissima, contrasted with music by Fayrfax performed on their very first recording, alongside music by Wylkynson and Sheppard. These fine examples of English polyphony are juxtaposed with stunning music by Tavener and Eric Whitacre in their 40th anniversary year.
