    Join us for our FREE monthly Family History group session. It's a great opportunity to get tips on using Find My Past and Ancestry and to share information and ideas with others. No need to book, just drop-in on the second Monday of the month, 10am - 12noon.
  • Lego Club
    Parent / Carer and children age 5 upwards can have fun building models together based on a theme. Places are limited so booking is essential. Free (Every second Monday in the month) 3.30pm-4.30pm
  • Meditation Classes
    Weekly Drop In Meditation classes led by Buddhist Nun Kelsang Minche. Classes will resume on Thursday starting Jan 17th. No need to book, just turn up. Each class contains two meditations and a talk on some aspect of Buddhism

    Come along to Barrow Libraries to celebrate Harry Potter Book Night 2019. This year we are holding drop in activities in all of our libraries. Pop along anytime during opening hours to take part in colouring, crafts and a fantastic competition to design your own magical creature! At Barrow you can also take part in a treasure trail to find Harry Potter Book covers from around the world and an eye spy challenge in our magical cabinet display! All welcome no need to book just come along!

    Monthly IT Drop In sessions with Age UK South Lakeland volunteers supporting the community with any queries or problems regarding Laptops, Tablets or Smart Phones. Try Cumbria libraries online offer of FREE eBooks, eAudiobooks, newspapers, magazines, and more. Monthly Drop In from2 to 4 pm on the last Thursday of every month.
  • Holocaust Memorial Day Display
    Pop in anytime between Monday 21st January and 25th February to look at our display. Read testimony's and life stories of survivors from around the world. Walk around our display of 'Moving Images' of Holocaust Memorial Day Trust commissioned project. A collection of five photographs of genocide survivors, with each individual featured holding an object that holds significance to them. Take part in the HMD 2019 Postcard Project to explore the theme Torn from home. Write a postcard in response to the testimony's you have read and receive a message in response.

  • International Textile Exhibition - Through the Seasons
    The coldness of winter, the mildness of spring, the sun of summer or the shades of the fall. This year's theme 'Through the Seasons' has been interpreted by each artist in a different way, with works focusing on one season, changing seasons and even the seasons of human lives, represented through realism or abstract colour and form. All the pieces in the exhibition were originally entered into a textile competition held in the prestigious annual 'Carrefour du Patchwork Meeting', which is hosted each September in Alsace, France. Techniques on display include patchworking, hand and machine quilting, embroidery, applique, painting, hand-stitching using textiles as varied as metallic wool, tulle, chiffon, felt, silk and linen.

    The overall aim of LGBT History month is to promote equality and diversity for the benefit of the public. This is done by: Increasing the visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people, their history, lives and their experiences in the curriculum and culture of educational and other institutions, and the wider community; Raising awareness and advancing education on matters affecting the LGBT community; Working to make educational and other institutions safe spaces for all LGBT communities; and Promoting the welfare of LGBT people, by ensuring that the education system recognises and enables LGBT people to achieve their full potential, so they contribute fully to society and lead fulfilled lives, thus benefiting society as a whole.
