  • BLEEP: Music Festival
    Join BlueJam for a brand new electronic/improvised music festival at Penrith Playhouse - featuring music workshops, demonstrations, installations, jams and gigs and more! The festival runs from 10am until late, with tickets available in advance on a Pay What You Can basis. The festival will showcase work by cutting edge electronic/improvised artists such as Werkha, Jemma Freese, LateGirl, Guerilla Biscuits and BARTHOLOMEW. Workshops during the day will include Soundpainting for singers plus an Instant Film Soundtrack session where you can score a film live. There will be an opportunity to learn how to create beats on Abletron as well as an interactive installation and showcases of primary school electronic composition projects from North Lakes School at St Herberts School in the cafe. Explore Winter Landscapes workshop shows you how to use mixed media to respond to the landscape through drawing and painting. What will the workshop cover and how will it be taught? We aim to go outdoors to observe and sketch as well as work indoors developing winter landscape themes with a focus on colour. Explore the possibilities of mixing media. This approach allows drawing and painting to develop colour and marks. Using water-based paint and a mixture of drawing materials such as charcoal, inktense and pastel you will be encouraged to work loosely to create dynamic art work.

Make a willow tipi garden structure, and learn about other ways to use willow in the garden. Willow tipis are beautiful and useful to support roses or climbing annuals, beans etc. What will the workshop cover and how will it be taught? This workshop will teach some traditional principles of weaving, especially willow and hedgerow weaving. There will also be a section where students can get advice on how to use willow in their garden for in-situ hurdles, borders and other projects. Hannah can also give general information on suitable species to use, soaking and storage, and tips for successful weaving.

Play and experiment with materials to create a number of geli plate prints. the technique is easy and fun to learn and participants will explore the printing process to make unique artworks. This workshop will start with demonstrations of the different starting points within the Geli plate printing process. Participants will then become familiar with the range of materials on offer through the making process.

Make a willow tipi garden structure, and learn about other ways to use willow in the garden. Willow tipis are beautiful and useful to support roses or climbing annuals, beans etc. What will the workshop cover and how will it be taught? This workshop will teach some traditional principles of weaving, especially willow and hedgerow weaving. There will also be a section where students can get advice on how to use willow in their garden for in-situ hurdles, borders and other projects. Hannah can also give general information on suitable species to use, soaking and storage, and tips for successful weaving.

Play and experiment with materials to create a number of geli plate prints. the technique is easy and fun to learn and participants will explore the printing process to make unique artworks. This workshop will start with demonstrations of the different starting points within the Geli plate printing process. Participants will then become familiar with the range of materials on offer through the making process.
