Description
Lasting Diaries - Barrow Library, Tuesday, Sept 10 from 9am.
9am to 12pm. BBC Radio Cumbria's Caroline Robertson will be broadcasting live from Barrow Library, celebrating 80 years of Nella Last, Barrow's 'Housewife 49'.
9am to 2pm. Pixel Portrait of Nella Last - come help us make a huge portrait of Barrow's famous wartime diarist out of 26,000 ration stamps! Like a giant paint-by-numbers, we'll be giving out ration card templates for everyone to build up the picture, adding small stickers done in the style of ration tokens. Stamp-by-stamp, from ham to jam, coffee to tea, with a communal effort together we'll build our mass participation portrait of Nella.
10am til they're gone - Dalton's Kooks Catering have baked some WW2 biscuit recipes for free nibbles at the event.
Curl-up in the Listening Post armchair to listen to extracts from Nella Last's diary, recounting life in Barrow 80 years ago as WW2 begun on September 3, 1939. Performed by Barrow actress, Helen Newell.
