Since the closure of the Armathwaite Nursery Group the governors had been providing a 'governor-led' childcare provision. The governors sought to formalise the establishment of a maintained nursery by changing the age range of the school from 4 to 11 to 3 to 11. The consultation provided an opportunity for those with an interest to share their views.

This consultation was concerned with the arrangements for primary education in the villages of Armathwaite and High Hesket. The suggested change was for Armathwaite to become an all-through primary school catering for children aged 4 to 11 with no transfer at the end of Year 3 to High Hesket. The council wanted to hear views on this possibility before it decided to make a change.

The process of considering change to the secondary education network, given its size and scope, was quite complex. The purpose of this document was to provide information about different ways of delivering 11-16 education in Barrow so that people could let us know what kind of changes they would have liked to have seen.
