The careful conservation of our landscapes, coast, woodlands and countryside is important. This helps to maintain and enhance the distinctive character and quality of these areas. Conservation work is guided by landscape, biodiversity and cultural heritage management plans, strategy and guidance, and is carried out by many different organisations and hundreds of volunteers across Cumbria.

We support our three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Partnerships to conserve these special landscapes.

We support Cumbria Woodlands to help manage and conserve forests and woodlands across the county, and the Morecambe Bay, Duddon Estuary and Solway Firth Partnerships to guide conservation work in the coastal areas.

We also support nature conservation organisations to help enhance knowledge and understanding of habitats and species.
