Shared Lives is a care and support service which offers an alternative to supported living or residential care. The support helps adults to live independently in their community with the support of a family and community network. It is a bit like fostering for adults. People are matched based on shared interests, lifestyles, and sense of humour. We are always recruiting new carers from across the county.

There are over 50 Shared Lives carers across Cumbria using their own home and family life to support people. As a Shared Lives Carer you could offer accommodation and support in your own home to an individual who needs it, with the support of a Shared Lives scheme. The person you support would be included in your family and home life alongside other family members.

Shared Lives carers come from all walks of life, many have had some caring experience, either as a professional care worker or as a family carer, but no care experience is required.

Shared Lives carers providing respite or long-term support can receive an allowance of £356 to £730 per week and the day support allowance is £10.90 to £11.90 per hour. . With tax relief, training, regular breaks, and a great support network, you will provide person centred support and see a real difference in the person you are supporting.
