The Chairman is elected by the Full Council, they preside over Full Council meetings ensuring they are a forum for the debate of matters of concern to the people of Cumbria.

The Chairman receives many invitations to engagements throughout the year for both day and evening events and welcomes the opportunity to represent Cumbria County Council and support events both within and outside the County.

The Chairman is asked at the beginning of their term of office to nominate a charity of their choice for support and staff of the council usually organise some events to support this.
