Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service Operations

The operational capability of Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service is based on 38 fire stations located across the county.

Barrow, Carlisle East and Carlisle West are staffed 24 hours a day by Regular (full time) firefighters.

Kendal, Workington and Whitehaven are also staffed by Regular firefighters 24 hours a day and supported by on-call (part time) firefighters for their second fire Appliances.

Ulverston and Penrith are staffed during the day by Regular firefighters (Ulverston 7.30am-7.30pm; Penrith 9am-5pm), with on-call firefighters providing additional support during and outside of these hours.

The remaining 30 stations are solely staffed by on-call firefighters who live and/or work in the community they serve. The types of incidents attended by the service are varied, from fires to floods and from road traffic collisions to animal rescues.

Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service prides itself on the operational readiness and continually strives to improve the service it gives to the whole community.
