Tom Palmer

Tom Palmer is the author of 51 books for children including three Puffin football series, Football Academy, Foul Play and The Squad. Foul Play was shortlisted for the 2009 Blue Peter Book Award. Armistice Runner, set in Cumbria, has recently won 6 prizes including the national FCBG Children's Book Award. D-Day dog is currently on the shortlist for 10 prizes, including the Cumbria Spellbinding Primary Book Award. His 2020 children's story After the War is about the three hundred child concentration camp survivors who came to Cumbria 75 years ago (who were known as the Windermere Boys).
Tom has promoted literacy for over 20 years, in over 3000 schools and libraries, specialising in motivating boys and girls to enjoy reading. In 2019 Tom was awarded the Ruth Rendell Award for Services to Literacy in schools by the National Literacy Trust. He can offer to primary and secondary schools a mixture of sessions to suit their needs including assemblies, presentations, workshops and online virtual visits focused on writing, Historical Fiction, encouraging reading through his trademark Football Reading Game and Rugby Reading Game or exploring themes in his books like resilience and Fair Trade.
