Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service - community volunteers
Spare some time to save some lives
Our Volunteers are a valued part of the Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) extended family and act as positive role models within their own neighbourhoods across Cumbria. Presently we have approximately 90 volunteers from a diverse range of backgrounds who work alongside CFRS personnel and enhance our capacity for preventative community safety activities across Cumbria.
Fire and Rescue Service Community Volunteers are men and women from all walks of life, varied ethnic backgrounds and all sections of the community - teachers, sales persons, civil servants, students, farmers and chefs. They could be in full or part time employment, unemployed, retired, studying or at home bringing up a family - ordinary people who actively want to help promote the fire safety message in their communities.
There is a consistent approach to recruitment and selection across the service to ensure all Fire and Rescue Service community volunteers are treated equally. At the outset it is made clear to Volunteers what they can expect from CFRS and what CFRS expect from them.
Community volunteers are given appropriate training to help them enhance their role and develop their skills, they could also use their existing skills, experience and knowledge to assist the service in their community safety activities.
Community Volunteers are supplied with full uniform and ID badge which they must wear at all times when carrying out volunteering duties.
Although the role of a Community Volunteer is unpaid, out of pocket expenses such as travel and parking are reimbursed.
Community volunteers join us for a variety of reasons, some are looking to spend time helping out in their communities, and others are looking to gain new skills and experiences.
