Millom fire station is staffed by On-call Firefighters and houses one fire engine and a Wildfire Land Rover.

The A595 trunk road passes through the station area and this leads to a number of calls to attend road traffic collisions, the station also responds to a significant number of calls to the prison at Haverigg each year. Open farmland and fells brings the danger of agricultural and wildfires, in addition to other farm incidents, such as livestock rescues. Firefighters receive specialist training to deal with Wildfire incidents.

Millom is a small coastal town situated in the most southerly part in Copeland district. It is  separated from the Furness peninsular by the Duddon Estuary and is bounded to the west by the Irish Sea.

The area contains:

  • 2 Grade I listed buildings

  • 1 Site of Specific Scientific Interest

  • 2 Site Specific Risks; Haverigg Prison and Langthwaite Farm

  • No significant Flood Risks within the Station area

There is a small industrial estate on the outskirts of the town; however the main industries within the area are agriculture and an expanding tourist trade. The town has two nature reserves and the Duddon estuary is a sight of Special Scientific Interest.

Close to the town is HM Prison Haverigg, the only prison in the County and the station  responds to a significant number of calls to these premises each year.  The A595 trunk road passes through the station area and this can lead to problems with road  traffic collisions

The table shows the number of incidents that have occurred within a nominal area assigned to the station (as shown on the map in the station profile).  This is different to the number of incidents attended by fire engines which are based at the station, as they may attend incidents outside their station area.
