Care Leavers Protocol

As of 24th April 2022, we have a Care Leavers' Protocol in place.  The purpose of the Protocol is to set out and agree a joint way of working between the District Councils as the housing authorities and Children's Services so that:

  • care leavers across Cumbria get a consistency of service;
  • joint working between both services is paramount and starts at an early stage;
  • as far as possible care leavers are supported to make planned moves into accommodation so they do not need to access the safety net offered through an emergency housing route; and
  • when care leavers are homeless or threatened with homelessness, we have a clear understanding of what support can be offered and by whom.

We have followed the same format as with our Protocol for 16 and 17 year olds, who are homeless or threatened with homelessness and have district-specific documents.
