Christian head is a 28 bedded residential care home for older adults who may be living with dementia, have a sensory impairment or physical disability. The home accommodation is provided over two floors and is in four units, one of which provides nine beds for specialist care for people living with dementia this is located on the ground floor. All the units have their own lounge with television and also a dining area. Residents are encouraged to personalise their individual bedrooms with photographs small items of furniture, pictures etc.
The home is located in the lovely town of Kirkby Stephen situated close to the local shops, cafes, GP surgery, bank and churches all within walking distance of the home. The grounds of the home are wheelchair accessible and there is an enclosed garden / patio area to the back of the home which provides a safe environment for the residents to enjoy.
Christian head has a wide range of activities on offer including:
- Arts and crafts
- Dominoes, board games, jigsaws
- Baking sessions
- Exercise sessions
- A range of singers visit the home throughout the year
- Pantomimes
- Pet therapy
- Gardening
- Quizzes
- Church services
- The hairdresser visits the home on a weekly basis.
There are also trips arranged throughout the year, again these are resident led, one of the popular locations is a trip to Morecambe.
We aim to make activities on offer person-centred and accessible to everyone and residents can give feedback and ideas as to what activities they would like to see happen in the home.

All meals are home cooked at Christian head. There are daily menu choices offered with a choice of at least two main options and desserts. The menus are reviewed and changes made to reflect the produce available like fresh fruit and vegetables that are in season and food is a topic for discussion at the residents meetings for feedback and input to the menus. Residents who require a specialist diet can be catered for. The meals are served on the units by the support staff.
