Age range of audience:  Ages 4 to 11

"I am an experienced primary school teacher and writer of picture books for younger children (my debut novel for 9 to 12 year olds will also be published in September 2021). I am a published poet, writer of cross-curricular reading books and author of The Lion Picture Bible. I have done many visits to schools, nurseries, libraries, literary festivals and even my local park!"

For KS1 (age 5 to 7), I offer school and family sessions with my picture books Legs and Just Like You (Lion Children's Books), featuring the cheeky antics of Miki the meerkat. Sessions include story-telling, hunting for lost meerkats, games and singing (with colouring activities and match the animal to the footprint worksheet if desired), as well as talking about feelings and looking at the illustrations for clues.

For KS2, I also do picture book workshops, poetry sessions and RE-related sessions using the Lion Picture Bible to consider how an author chooses words to create atmosphere (links with the National Curriculum).

Sarah's novel for 9-12 year olds, Keeper of Secrets, is due to be published by Firefly Press on 2nd September 2021. It covers themes of loss and loneliness against a background of the debate about the rewilding of lynx in the UK.  As well as KS2, it would be suitable for Year 7s.

Keeper of Secrets sessions for KS2 and Year 7 include debating the issue of rewilding large predators in the UK, as well as the difference between facts and opinions. We discuss the importance of setting, learn lots about lynx and even play pawprint Bingo. So it's great for budding ecologists as well as bookworms and animal lovers!
